Carolyn has taught basic skills - mainly literacy - on exclusion projects for over ten years. To help her in this, she gained a Graduate Certificate in Adult Literacy Teaching from the Institute of Education, University of London.

Despite her qualifications and experience, she always felt that she should be able to do more to help the poor spellers she worked with. Some - but not all - of the students that she supported had been diagnosed as dyslexic. Many others just found literacy, including spelling, very difficult.

Now Carolyn thinks she has discovered the 'missing link' in teaching spelling. She has recently trained as a practitioner in 'Seeing Spells Achieving'© by Olive Hickmott. Olive teaches a process of visualising words that has a dramatic effect on students of all ages who work on the process.

Carolyn has started to work with this method, and students show an immediate improvement. The process also increases confidence in those who up until now had felt a sense of failure due to their poor spelling skills.
